Blue Devils nominated for two Emmy Awards

DURHAM – Men’s basketball creative content team Duke was nominated for a pair of Emmy Awards, as the Midsouth Regional Emmy Chapter announced their nominees for 2021 on Monday night.

Entries have been judged by professional peers and nominees are based solely on their scores, with winners announced in February. The nominations represent the first two for the Blue Devils creative team of David Bradley, Nolan Elingbourg and Stephen ochoa.

In the Sports Story / News Feature category, Duke’s video on the Jones family was nominated. Of the six nominees in this category, five are from news agencies, with Duke being the only one from a team or college.

Jones’ video was produced by Elingburg and detailed Duke’s former guards Tre and Tyus jones and their mother, Debbie, in his fight against breast cancer.

In the Post-Product Sports Program category, the Blue Devils’ popular Duke Blue Planet series was nominated. Duke Blue Planet has twice won a Sports Video Group (SVG) award for a series of outstanding programs in varsity athletics.

The show, which has been edited and produced over the past two seasons by Ochoa, has averaged nearly 2.7 million views per year and has totaled one million hours of viewing on men’s basketball social accounts of Duke.

The Midsouth Regional Chapter is one of 19 national chapters of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), which is a professional services organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences in television and promoting creative leadership in artistic, educational and technical achievement within the television industry.

Each chapter awards its own Emmy Awards.
