Canada will continue to support initiatives aimed at bringing peace and stability to the South Caucasus region – MFA

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Canada will continue to support initiatives to bring peace and stability to the South Caucasus region and stands ready to contribute to these efforts, Canada’s Foreign Minister said in response to government petition of Canada, reports Trend.

“The Government of Canada recognizes the Khojaly massacre as a terrible tragedy and remembers with great sadness the victims who lost their lives and the continued suffering. Canada has strongly advocated that such a tragic loss of civilian life as the Khojaly massacre be never repeated,” the response reads.

According to the response, Canada recognizes all UN Security Council resolutions on Karabakh and the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders.

“Canada encourages continued leadership-level dialogue on important confidence-building measures, such as the establishment of bilateral border demarcation and delimitation mechanisms, as well as the restoration of regional connectivity ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Canada has welcomed these developments and continues to strongly support the ongoing and future work of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.”
