First in Class: Awards Celebrate Homebuilding Industry Leaders

It was a night of real-time handshakes and hugs on April 30 as the Calgary Region of the Building and Land Development (BILD) industry celebrated excellence in construction, renovation and community development.

For the first time since 2019, the Calgary Area BILD Awards Gala was held in person at the Telus Convention Centre, with 61 winners crossing the stage to receive awards.

More than 500 entries competed for awards in 55 categories, with many hopefuls vying to win one of six Grand Prizes, determined by the ranking of submissions across all categories.

The 2021 Builder of the Year Grand Awards went to Morrison Homes, Single Family Large Volume; Houses Logel, Multifamily Large Volume; Riverview Custom Homes, Small Volume Single Family Homes and Renova Homes & Renovations, Small Volume Multi-Family. Renovator of the Year was Ultimate Renovations and Partner of the Year was Marsh Canada.

Morrison’s grand prix was a back-to-back win for the high-volume builder and his 15th overall. Morrison had 14 nominations for projects completed in 2021, the year of his 60th birthday. It was a second major award in as many years for Logel, entering the competition with 12 nominations.

In addition to the Grand Award, Riverview Custom Homes took home three other awards, including Best New Home of $2.3 Million and Above, a category in which it was the only nominee. Renova Homes and Renovations also won three awards in addition to the Grand Award.

Ultimate Renovations had another banner year, winning Renovator of the Year for the 12th time since its inception in 1998. Ultimate was nominated in seven categories.

Partner of the Year was Marsh Canada, a global insurance broker and risk advisor.

In Developer Awards, Seton by Brookfield Residential won Best Community-Calgary for the second year in a row. Community of the Year-Calgary Region, was again awarded to Harmony at Springbank, a rural development by Bordeaux Developments and Qualico Communities. Founded in 2016, this is the fifth time that Harmony has won this grand prize.
Brookfield’s Rockland Park in the North West has been named 2021 New Community of the Year.

The Show Home Parade of the Year 2021 has been awarded to Section23 Developments for the first phase of its new Rangeview community in the South East.

Other gala highlights included hardware presentations at Jayman Built, winning five of its seven nominations, including an Industry Achievement/Best Innovation award for its Quantum Performance Ultra E-Home, the first net zero project of the manufacturer.

Multi-family builder Minto Communities received four awards for its East Hills Crossing development, and Graywood Developments won two trophies for its luxury condo development in Eau Claire, First & Park, including Best Multi-Family Community Concept.
